Recipe Saving on ReciMe and Copyright

Everything you need to know.

We understand that copyright is an important issue for recipe creators, and we want to clarify how the ReciMe app works and why using ReciMe to save and organize recipes does not constitute copyright infringement by ReciMe.

ReciMe is a Personal Recipe Organizer

At its core, ReciMe is a tool for personal recipe collection and organization. It functions much like a digital notebook or folder where users can store their favorite recipes — whether they come from family traditions, personal experiments in the kitchen, or publicly available recipes they've found online such as on a friend’s social media feed.

When a user saves a recipe to ReciMe, they are doing so manually and individually, just like they might copy and paste online text into a notes app, or print it out for their own cookbook at home.  Recipes cannot be saved by users in bulk.

ReciMe does not use bots or automated tools to scrape or collect recipes from other websites. Only the individual user can choose what content they save to their personal location within ReciMe.

ReciMe does not choose or recommend what recipes a user may wish to collect.

Similar to Common Note-Taking Tools

The ReciMe functionality is very similar to other widely-used tools such as Microsoft OneNote, Google Keep, Evernote, Instapaper, or Pocket — which allow users to clip or save content from the web for personal use.

There are also many popular recipe apps (such as Paprika, Recipe Keeper, and Copy Me That) that offer this same ability to store and organize recipes for individual and personal use.

Recipes Are Set to Private Viewing by Default

At ReciMe, we treat all individually saved recipes as private, personal content — intending that they remain for the user’s eyes only.

When a user saves a recipe using ReciMe, it is automatically marked as Private. That means it is only visible to the individual user who saved it. It is not shared publicly within the app or with other users.  For example, we do not have a central library of recipes available based on what its users choose to individually store. We do not offer any “sharing” functionality within ReciMe and do not encourage sharing of recipes amongst individual users.

This helps ensure that recipes saved by an individual user are treated as personal notes as intended — not as publicly republished content.
